Artem Lobov claims Conor McGregor deserves immediate title rematch against Khabib

UFC 229: Khabib v McGregor

The dust has finally settled following the highly anticipated lightweight championship clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

It's sometimes easy to forget that The Eagle submitted the Notorious by cranking his neck in the fourth-round, keeping his record-breaking run intact and stretching it to an unprecedented 27-0.

However, it's the despicable brawl which has forever tarred the event in a negative light with blame being thrown back and forth.

Despite that, MMA fans are split on what should be next for the Irishman.

McGregor's fans are sticking by their man and are claiming he deserves the next opportunity, while the majority believe McGregor must now prove himself against a top contender before stepping foot inside of the Octagon against the Dagestani bear-grappler next.

Although, McGregor has also claimed that he'd happily take another fight before McGregor.

Now, Artem Lobov - McGregor's training partner and the man responsible for igniting this epic rivalry - has claimed that McGregor does deserve the immediate rematch.

Ahead of his own clash against Michael Johnson, following on from UFC removing Zubaira Tukhugov, Lobov claimed that McGregor deserves the fight because he's never said no to a bout previously.

According to MMA Junkie, he said: "I think that’s the fight that makes sense,” Lobov told MMAjunkie on Thursday at a media day for his UFC Fight Night 138 bout vs. Michael Johnson.

“He’s made everyone in the UFC, including Khabib, a lot more money than they ever have made, so why not give him this?

“He’s been the guy that always took everybody on. There’s been many changes of opponents for him. He never blinked an eyelid – just took the fights, no problem.

"Never pulled out in his life. A true fighter. A fighter’s fighter. A real man. So give him the fight.”

Although McGregor has drawn plenty of praise for his commitment to stepping up to the plate time and time again, it's no secret that others deserve the opportunity beforehand.

While there's always the Nate Diaz trilogy to look forward to, fans finally want to see Nurmagomedov meet Tony Ferguson at the fifth time of asking.

For now, it doesn't seem as if the UFC will grant McGregor an immediate rematch after he convincingly failed to nail the blueprint when it came to deciphering the difficult sambo style Khabib brings to the Octagon.
