Liverpool moved to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday with a dominant 4-1 victory over Cardiff City at Anfield.

Of course, their position could change depending on the outcome of Tottenham versus Manchester City on Monday, but it's a sign of Liverpool's title credentials.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring and provided two assists, Sadio Mane bagged a brace and there was a first Liverpool goal for substitute Xherdan Shaqiri.

At the back, while the Reds conceded their first home league goal since February, it was another convincing overall display from their defence, especially in the air.

Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk were at the heart of that good work, but the former has been mocked by James Milner for an unfortunate yet very funny incident against Cardiff.

Liverpool's defensive options

Lovren missed Liverpool's first seven games of this season due to helping Croatia reach the 2018 World Cup final as well as suffering an injury.

In his absence, Van Dijk formed a solid partnership with Joe Gomez, but his return has given Jurgen Klopp the option of deploying the English youngster at right-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk and Alberto Moreno made up the back four in the defeat of Cardiff, and Lovren produced an amusing moment.

Milner mocks Lovren's funny moment in 4-1 win

For seemingly no apparent reason, the 29-year-old defender tripped and fell in the penalty area after an aerial duel with Cardiff captain Sean Morrison.

Milner replaced Roberto Firmino in the 71st-minute and the midfielder couldn't help but troll Lovren on Instagram following the match.

In fact, the 32-year-old posted the clip of Lovren embarrassing himself, describing it as the "comedy moment of the year" - check it out below.

Milner's full caption read: "Another professional performance, but comedy moment of the year goes to Dejan Lovren for having a go at the three-legged race on his own."

The laughing Englishman then hashtagged three phrases - "Are his laces tied together", "Hope nobody saw it" and "Funnier every time I see it".

Milner and Lovren will now turn their attention to Liverpool's next two assignments as they travel to in-form Arsenal followed by Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
