Liverpool moved to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday afternoon with a thoroughly deserved 4-1 win over Cardiff City.

Mohamed Salah grabbed plenty of headlines after his top display, but just as key to the Reds' triumph at Anfield was fellow forward Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international continued to look back to his best, producing two excellent strikes to score twice and take his tally for the campaign to seven goals.

The only negative for Jurgen Klopp's men was the goal they conceded and the end of an impressive home league clean sheet streak which stretches all the way back to February.

Many people, including several Liverpool fans, blamed surprise starter Alberto Moreno for Cardiff's goal - now star man Mane has responded to those critics.

Moreno gets surprise start against Cardiff

Moreno has spent over four years at Liverpool now but the rise and excellent form of Andy Robertson means he's currently nothing more than a bit-part player.

The Spaniard made his very first league appearance of the 2018-19 season against Cardiff and it was just the third time he's featured across all competitions this term.

How Cardiff scored against Liverpool

The move for Cardiff's 77th-minute goal began with a throw-in on Moreno's side of the pitch, where he got too tight to his man and failed to win the ball with his challenge.

Junior Hoilett's subsequent cross deflected off captain Virgil van Dijk into the path of Callum Paterson, who slid the ball past Alisson and into the net.

Before Paterson's goal, the Reds had gone a whopping 918 minutes without conceding in the league at home, and lots of their supporters weren't happy.

Liverpool fans blame Moreno for Cardiff goal

As you can see below, there were Liverpool fans on Twitter who held Moreno responsible for the goal they let in against the newly-promoted side.

Mane reacts to people blaming Moreno

In addition to defending teammate Moreno, Mane also suggested that he himself was partially responsible for Cardiff's goal due to his different positioning.

After the match, the 26-year-old told the BBC, via Liverpool Echo: "I think we conceded because we lacked communication.

"Normally I am with Alberto (Moreno) on the left but I was in midfield and, one-v-one, it is not easy for Moreno. That is part of football, we will try to learn from that."

Mane, who will most likely have Robertson back with him on the left-hand side, and Liverpool now turn their attention to next weekend's clash at Arsenal.
