Virgil van Dijk has been nothing short of sensational since arriving at Liverpool for £75 million in January.

The Reds may have spent a record fee for the defender but nobody is questioning the price tag right now.

That’s because the Dutchman has completely transformed Liverpool’s defence with Jurgen Klopp’s side conceding just four goals in their opening 10 matches this season.

Earlier this week, Van Dijk was voted as the club’s third captain by his fellow teammates, behind Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

Van Dijk led Liverpool out against Red Star Belgrade - a game in which Liverpool won 4-0 - and Klopp revealed that it wasn’t actually his decision.

“It probably says a lot about [him] but it was not my decision," Klopp explained.

“I decided Henderson and Milner will stay [as captain and vice-captain] - that is the 100% logical thing to do and it would have been as well like that if we had voted.

“And then I said the next two, the players can vote, and now the two Dutch guys are in the row. The team decided number three for Virgil and number four for Gini Wijnaldum”

So, it’s clear that the Liverpool players love Van Dijk and it’s now evident that the Liverpool fans also love him.

That’s because they’ve created a new song for him - and it’s looks set to catch on.

To the tune of ‘Dirty Old Town’ by Ewan MacColl - a very popular Irish song - Kopites have made up a very catchy chant for Van Dijk.

Take a look:

If you can’t quite work it out, here are the lyrics:

“He’s our centre half,
“He’s our number 4.
“Watch him defend,
“And we watch him score,
“He can pass the ball,
“Calm as you like,
“He’s Virgil Van Dijk, he’s Virgil Van Dijk!”

Brilliant.

Don’t be surprised to hear Anfield bouncing to this new chant in the coming weeks and months.
