Alicia Fox and a referee made a huge error during opening match at WWE Evolution

Alicia Fox.

WWE Evolution was a truly-historic night for all women involved.

In-front of a vocal crowd at the Nassau Coliseum, the females of the company put on a thoroughly entertaining show for the masses that attended.

The night opened with WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita returning to the ring, to take on Alicia Fox and a former nemesis of the pair - Mickie James.

It was supposed to be five-time Women's Champion Alexa Bliss who partnered James, but injury rendered her unable to participate.

And the match was fine for what it was, Lita and Trish - dubbed 'Team Bestie' - both got all their spots in, albeit being a bit slow at times.

The two eventually picked up the victory after Lita hit her famous Moonsault on both Fox and James, before the Chick Kick by Stratus to James secured victory.

But the result wasn't what the WWE fans were talking about from the match - it was a horrendous botch.

Alicia Fox has been in the WWE for 10 years now, but showed at Evolution that she can still miss spots in a match.

Towards the climax of the bout, Stratus hit James with a dose of Stratusfaction off the ropes and went for the pinfall.

There was a clear delay as the referee seemed like he should have counted to three as Mickie's shoulders were on the mat, and in came Alicia to break things up, a second too late.

It was pretty shocking, and we can't honestly see why it happened - Alicia would now be considered a veteran inside the ring and it shouldn't be happening.

What's even worse though is that instead of quickly editing it out, WWE decided to replay the botch following the match in the highlights.

What on earth were they thinking?!

Needless to say fans were either not happy or just plain cringed at the botched spot.
