James Wade came out victorious following an intense battle with German starlet Max Hopp, in their semi-final clash in the European Darts Championships, but it’s his actions following his triumph that has led to some darts fans being critical of the Brit.It was looking bleak for Wade, who found himself 9-5 down to Hopp in front of a boisterous crowd cheering on the 22-year-old.As the championships were held in Germany this year, the Idstein-born youngster very much had the support of the fans in the arena, with Wade looking flustered as he fell further and further behind. However, Wade showed why he has won multiple titles and launched a thrilling comeback, bringing it back to 10-10, before showing nerves of steel to clinch the final leg, and with that, a place in the final. It was at this point that Wade lost the respect of some of the fans.Directly after he had thrown his final dart to win the contest, Wade turned to face the crowd with his arms aloft, all while ignoring Hopp. This wasn’t the first time Wade had blanked the German, after failing to acknowledge Hopp’s attempt at a handshake prior to the final leg. When the pair eventually shook hands, Wade appeared to avoid looking at Hopp and tried to walk away before the German pulled him back to have a word.Scroll to 55:40 in the below video to watch Wade's actions.

The pair seemed amicable as they engaged in a short conversation and a warmer handshake, but some have criticised Wade for being unsporting and ungracious in victory.

Wade went on to defeat Australian Simon Whitlock in the final and win his first major televised title since 2014.

Hopp, however, will be left to rue a missed chance, but will still look back on a positive tournament following victories over the likes of James Wilson and Darren Webster.
