Reports of Neymar’s discontent with life at Paris Saint-Germain just won’t go away.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed earlier in the month that he was sounding out a return to Barcelona, such is his unhappiness in Paris.

It was only last year that Neymar made history with a £197 million move from Barcelona to the Parc des Princes.

The trophies have poured in - he helped PSG to a domestic treble last season - but it’s easy to wonder whether his status within the team is having an affect.

Neymar left the Camp Nou to escape Lionel Messi’s shadow but now finds himself at a club where Kylian Mbappe is the star.

The 19-year-old is among the finest young talents in the world and boosted his reputation in France by helping Les Bleus win the 2018 World Cup.

So, could a stunning return to Barcelona really be on the cards?

Messi wants Neymar back

If Messi has his way, quite possibly.

According to the Independent, the Argentinian would be perfectly willing for Neymar to come back and is even involved in making it happen.

Messi has been speaking to club officials about the advantages of Neymar being re-signed.

The 31-year-old realises the need to win more Champions Leagues before the time comes for his retirement.

He’s won the competition four times but not since 2015 have Barcelona been champions of Europe. Given their dominance in Spain, Messi believes they should have more.

And according to the Independent, Messi believes that adding Neymar would boost their chances of European success.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner believes that the 2014-15 side, which featured Neymar and Luis Suarez alongside him in attack, was among the best he has played in at the Camp Nou.

Hence why he’s making a push to see Neymar back.

The cost to bring the Brazilian back could be an issue. PSG would ask for the £197m that they paid for him in 2017.

But some at Barcelona have suggested letting Ousmane Dembele, whose adjustment to life in Spain has been difficult, go in the other direction.
