Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has endured an inconsistent beginning to his career at Anfield since his summer move.

Fabinho joined Liverpool following a £39 million move from Monaco, a side he won the Ligue 1 with in the 2016/2017 season.

The Brazilian, who has made seven appearances for his national side, was joined by fellow midfielder Naby Keïta, forward Xherdan Shaqiri and goalkeeper Alisson in summer moves to Anfield.

Fabinho’s countrymen Alisson, who joined for a then record £66.8m fee, and Keïta, have found regular spots in Jürgen Klopp starting 11.

However, Fabinho, alongside Shaqiri, have failed to make a solid impact in Liverpool’s starting 11, despite the Merseyside outfit currently sitting second in the Premier League, trailing only behind champions Manchester City, as both sides share 26 points in 10 games.

Fabinho suffered criticism after his Liverpool debut, a 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at home to Chelsea, as the 25-year-old was adjudged to have been off the pace and lacking form.

In spite of the unfavourable debut, Fabinho has since improved his performances and Liverpool fans were quick to praise the defensive midfielder for his efforts in their 4-0 Champions League win against Red Star Belgrade.

Fabinho opens up about tough start to life at Anfield

Fabinho, who played the full 90 minutes against Red Star Belgrade and more recently Cardiff in the Premier League, opened up to ESPN about his need to ‘adapt’ to life in the Premier League.

"I'm very happy to play my second match in a row as first-choice, played the full match. It is very good for me," Fabinho said.

"This moment to adapt, it hasn't been easy- many times you are out, there were many times I wasn't [picked].

"But I tried to learn from all this, tried to give my best during practice. The coaches were very nice to me, they didn't let me get down. I worked to be well prepared.

"[I] got the opportunity last Wednesday, I believe I [had] a good match, and [against Cardiff] I believe I helped the team at the midfield.

"The moment is good, being called has helped too. So I'm very happy, I hope I can keep it. I know the rate here is very high, you have to always try to keep a good performance, and in our team we have a lot of options in the midfield.

"Of course it's not possible to be always called, but whenever the coach needs me I want to be ready for it."

With Liverpool having stars such as Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Keïta, will Fabinho’s good form be enough to secure himself a regular spot in Klopp’s side.
