It came as a shock to many when the UFC conformed Daniel Cormier would step in on late notice to main event a Madison Square Garden this Saturday (November 3).Cormier will meet Derick Lewis at UFC 230, in a fight that was made just three weeks prior to the November date slated.UFC 230 will mark the third event the company has staged at MSG, following from the history making New York debut in November 2016.That night Conor McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight title and ‘The Notorious’ subsequently became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two world championships simultaneously. However, UFC 230 isn’t heading in the same direction as that memorable MSG debut, as the card has suffered several setbacks.Firstly, Nate Diaz’s much anticipated octagon return was scrapped when his opponent Dustin Poirier suffered an injury in training- and the rematch between Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold was also shelved due to the latter pulling out injured. So, in came DC, who will make the first defence of the heavyweight title he won against Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, against Lewis who has won nine of his last 10 fights- including a win against Francis Ngannou.

Cormier on what will happen if Lesnar shows up in the cage

That night will also be remembered for the post fight antics involving Cormier and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar- however, DC told SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio show what he will do if the WWE star tries a similar move at UFC 230.

“I heard Brock Lesnar will be at The Garden for UFC 230,” Cormier said.

“If he tries to step in that cage again, I’m going to slap him in his face. I owe him one from last time.”

With Cormier reportedly so close to agreeing a fight with Lesnar before UFC 230 announcement, how big of a risk is it to fight Lewis with that superfight in mind?
