It takes some serious talent to impress Sir Alex Ferguson, but that's exactly what Ravel Morrison was able to do at Manchester United.

The Englishman is widely considered to be one of the most exciting youngsters to emerge at Old Trafford and it's for that reason, that his career has proven so disappointing ever since.

Despite a brief run of form with West Ham, Morrison has never really proven himself at the top level and fans have been left scratching their heads after so much promise at United.

Rio Ferdinand once recalled Ferguson talking about the youngster, noting: "He's better than you Rooney when you were a kid, he's better than you Rio, better than Ryan Giggs when you were kids.

"This is the best kid you will ever see," was the eventual conclusion and that's no small statement after all the players who came through during the 'Class of 92' era.

Morrison struggling at Lazio

And although Morrison's career has been on the slide ever since leaving United, it was his move to Lazio in 2015 that really slammed the brakes on proceedings.

Morrison has made just eight appearances in Italy, was shipped out on loan to Mexico last season and now faces an early exit despite having an extra year on his contract.

It was reported in the Daily Mail this month that the Rome-based team are happy to see Morrison leave for absolutely nothing and have 'given up' on him.

Next step in Morrison's career

Pretty sad stuff, but it seems Morrison does have a few options going forward.

There were rumours of a potential move to Ligue 1, yet Sky Sports have reported this week that Morrison could make a surprising transfer to Sweden in the New Year.

That's right, Sky sources understand that Ostersunds FK are after his signature and could sign him for free before the start of the new Allsvenskan season.

The report reiterates that Lazio are happy to allow Morrison to leave in January, either permanently or on loan, and don't believe he has a future at the club.

A move to Ostersunds would represent a new low for the player, even if the Sweden club infamously defeated Arsenal last season, and finished fifth in the league last year.

After all the hope at United in the past, though, it represents a major fall from grace and Lazio seems to be his final, major opportunity in European football.

The sad fact of the matter is that Morrison's career is evolving into that of a journeyman's and he needs to impress sooner rather than later to turn that around.

He's still only 25 years old, but it would take some special performances up in Sweden to encourage any major sides to take a risk on him.

Lazio have firmly given up on Morrison and it remains to be seen how many clubs will do the same going forward.
