Shawn Michaels gives a reason for his in-ring return at WWE Crown Jewel

WWE Crown Jewel is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia later today and it looks set to be a great event inside the ring even though controversy has surrounded the event outside of the ring for several weeks now.

The main event of the show will most likely be the finals of the World Cup which features Bobby Lashley, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, and Rey Mysterio.

Crown Jewel's card also features a match for the vacant Universal Championship between Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar, as well as a tag team match between D-Generation X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels) vs The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane).

Michaels will be wrestling later today for the first time since his Streak vs Career match against The Deadman at WrestleMania XXVI in 2010.

Many fans believe however that HBK has come out of retirement for one more match because of the money which WWE was able to offer him as part of their 10-year deal with Saudi Arabia. Some fans also don't like that he's not returning for a singles match.

Speaking to WWE prior to Crown Jewel, Michaels himself explained why he is competing at Crown Jewel alongside his D-Generation X tag team partner against The Brothers of Destruction.

He said, according to Cageside Seats: “I’m very thrilled that after 30 years of being with the WWE I still have the opportunity to be a part of things that are happening for the first time, so I don’t look at it as really a comeback.

"Like everything in this line of work, I’m thankful it’s a bigger deal to other people than it is to me. I think that’s what I guess makes it easier to do and less anxiety.

"I will say this - and maybe it’s going to go really badly because there’s no stress, there’s no anxiety, I don’t feel a lot of pressure to be ‘The Showstopper’ to be ‘Mr. WrestleMania.’ Maybe because it’s not at WrestleMania.

Shawn Michaels says Crown Jewel is more like a 'cheat day' than a WWE comeback

"One of the reasons I agreed to do it, it didn’t encompass all of those things that I feel a ‘comeback’ or a ‘coming out of retirement’ sort of dictates...

"... it’s sort of like saying yes to eating chocolate pie. Sometimes, you know, for the most part, you know it’s not as good for you, you try not to have too much of it, but every now and then, you have a cheat day, you enjoy it, and then that’s it. That’s what this is for me, it’s a very glorified cheat day.”

Gloss it however you like, many WWE fans will still see the reason for HBK coming out of retirement at Crown Jewel is for 'one big payday', rather than proverbial 'one more match' desire, no matter what he says.
