WWE Crown Jewel is set to take place later today in Saudi Arabia but one superstar that won't be there is Daniel Bryan.
Bryan was previously advertised to compete at the show against AJ Styles in a WWE Championship match after he defeated The Miz at Super Show-Down to become the number one contender for the title.
However, since the news emerged about the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi on October 2 at the Saudi consulate in Turkey, reports have stated that The King of Beards was no longer going to be competing at Crown Jewel.
WWE waited until this week to address the news, and they did so by pushing forward Bryan's WWE title match vs Styles to SmackDown Live, a match which he lost
WWE then booked The Phenomenal One to defend his title against Samoa Joe at Crown Jewel instead after the latter attacked both Styles and Bryan following their match on Tuesday night.
The real reason behind The King of Beards pulling out of his WWE Championship match at Crown Jewel today has now been revealed.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, via Cageside Seats, Bryan’s decision not to wrestle in Saudi Arabia was made 'long ago and due to the country’s treatment of homosexuals and his feeling like it was racism that Sami Zayn wasn’t allowed to wrestle at Greatest Royal Rumble.'
Bryan may have even tried to avoid Crown Jewel completely by asking to lose to The Miz at Super Show-Down and therefore not be booked in a WWE title match vs Styles, although it's unclear if this match was always going to happen at the event.
Many WWE fans will be happy that Bryan is standing up for what he believes in, and they'll be keeping their fingers crossed that he's back in the WWE title picture as soon as Crown Jewel is in the books.
