WWE's booking plan for Brock Lesnar as Universal Champion

WWE shocked many fans yesterday at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia with their booking of the Universal Championship match between Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar.

Before the match even started, Baron Corbin attacked Strowman from behind with the Universal title, giving Lesnar the advantage and an opening to win the match.

Without taking a single bump, The Beast hit five F5s on The Monster Among Men and defeated him to become a two-time Universal Champion in just over three minutes.

Following the match, WWE revealed that Lesnar will be taking on WWE Champion AJ Styles once more at Survivor Series as part of the traditional Monday Night Raw vs SmackDown Live booking at the event.

Via Cageside Seats, Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio has now revealed how WWE will be booking their two-time Universal Champion following Crown Jewel.

Meltzer has stated that Lesnar has signed for at least two more appearances with the WWE, with one of those being at Survivor Series. After that, he'll clash with The Monster Among Men again.

He said: ”He’s going to face AJ at Survivor Series, which is non-title, and then the plan is for Strowman. Whether that’s at Rumble or ‘Mania, I don’t know. I could see Strowman winning the Rumble and then facing Lesnar at ‘Mania.”

The timing of Lesnar's current Universal title reign though is a bit awkward for WWE, as he's in the middle of his UFC return, meaning he can't take many, if any, bumps in the ring as he won't want to injure himself before his return fight.

This is why many WWE fans were shocked to see him walk away with the Universal title yesterday at Crown Jewel. Due to this, it will be interesting to see how WWE books his upcoming match vs Styles at Survivor Series too, and whether or not he takes any bumps in that match.

While having the Universal Championship on Lesnar again might be annoying for some fans, it could end up being the right move for WWE in the long run.

They could eventually build up Strowman as the conqueror of a superstar that was champion in two different sports, depending on if Lesnar gets a UFC title fight vs Daniel Cormier.

However, if the above report by Meltzer is true, WWE fans won't be happy that they might have to wait until the 2019 Royal Rumble, or possibly even WrestleMania 35, to see another Universal title fight after the recent elevation the title received while Roman Reigns was champion.
