Reason for Shane McMahon's WWE World Cup win revealed

WWE surprised almost every fan yesterday with their finish to their World Cup tournament at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia this week, as Shane McMahon won the entire thing.

The original final was scheduled to be Monday Night Raw's Dolph Ziggler vs SmackDown Live's The Miz, but due to an injury to The A-Lister, Shane-O-Mac entered himself into the match instead.

The SmackDown Live commissioner went on to win the World Cup to the surprise of almost every fan watching Crown Jewel yesterday,  and now the reason why he did has been explained.

According to Cageside Seats, Shane McMahon won the WWE World Cup in order to set up a SmackDown vs. Raw match at Survivor Series later this month.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio added that this World Cup win will be the start of a heel turn for the SmackDown Live commissioner as well.

Obviously, The Miz wasn't actually hurt at Crown Jewel, and the World Cup Final went down as WWE planned it with Shane McMahon coming out on top. At the time though, it was a bit confusing for fans to watch.

This explanation should help the fans make sense of the situation, and there will most likely be further promos about it on Raw and SmackDown next week as WWE continues their build-up towards Survivor Series.

Presumably, Shane-O-Mac's heel turn will play into the Raw vs. Smackdown storyline leading into Survivor Series, but how exactly WWE will book this remains to be seen.

Shane already showed small signs of a heel turn this past Tuesday when he told SmackDown superstars that were involved in the World Cup in a backstage segment that they would be fired if they lost the World Cup finals.

Shane McMahon will reportedly be turning heel soon

Since none of them made it to the finals, more pressure could be placed on them to perform at Survivor Series on November 18, or risk losing their jobs on the blue brand.

If WWE doesn't go down this path, the most obvious direction for a heel turn by the SmackDown Live commissioner would be to turn on Daniel Bryan.

The King of Beards is arguably the biggest babyface on the blue brand roster that's not featured in the WWE title picture right now, and due to his fan favourite status, Shane turning on him would be the easiest way for him to earn heat by the WWE Universe.
