The booking for the Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel caught many WWE fans by surprise, as nobody expected it to unfold the way it did.

Before the match even started, Monday Night Raw commissioner Baron Corbin attacked Strowman from behind with the Universal title, giving Lesnar the advantage and an opening to win the clash.

The Beast hit five F5s on The Monster Among Men and defeated him to become a two-time Universal Champion in just over three minutes without taking a single bump in the match.

According to reports, while Lesnar was supposed to win the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel, he wasn't supposed to win it in the manner which he did.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, via Ringside News, has reported that Strowman was supposed to be screwed out of winning the Universal title at Crown Jewel, rather than losing in a squash match against Lesnar.

Meltzer said: “The idea was not that he got beat or squashed — the idea is that he kept surviving the F5 over and over again until it was too much and he had to take one over the top rope and to the floor..."

The Wrestling Observer Radio host went on to blame the announce team at Crown Jewel for not explaining the situation well enough during the broadcast of the event.

He said: "The idea was again, he got no offense on Brock because if he would have gotten offense, the story is, ‘What if it was a fair fight and got offense on Brock?’

"I think a lot of people watching it didn’t understand that story which is not your fault for watching it because I didn’t understand it either until I was told the story when it was over.

"So the fact is that the announcers didn’t tell that story and that’s on them because it’s the job of the announcers to get the match over.”

The timing of Lesnar's current Universal title reign has come at an awkward time, as he's in the middle of his UFC return, meaning he can't take many, if any, bumps in the ring.

Meltzer also reported that Strowman may have to wait until the 2019 Royal Rumble, or possibly even WrestleMania 35 to get another match against Lesnar for the Universal Championship, so this feud between them is only getting started.
