Dean Ambrose was backstage at Crown Jewel - why WWE didn't use him revealed

WWE's deals in Saudi Arabia have come under intense pressure for obvious reasons lately, but the actual show they put on in the middle east has its own criticisms.

The WWE decided to bring Hulk Hogan back for their latest offering in Saudi Arabia on Friday night and the show also featured the legendary Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement.

Of course, one of the main talking points of the WWE's business in Saudi Arabia centres around the fact that women are not allowed to compete there.

WWE did hold an all-women's pay-per-view, Evolution, just last week. Whether that was to compensate for not participating in Saudi Arabia or if it was another step in the women's revolution, only time will tell.

Renee Young did retain her position on commentary in what must be seen as a progressive step for the WWE's relations in the country, but her husband, Dean Ambrose, was conspicuous by his absence.

The Lunatic Fringe recently turned on his Shield brethren Seth Rollins following Roman Reigns' announcement he is battling Leukaemia and will be stepping away from the ring.

Rollins was in action in the Crown Jewel World Cup and many fans thought that Ambrose might come out and cost Rollins during the tournament.

However, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Ambrose did media for the event and was more of a chaperone for his wife during the trip.

“Dean Ambrose was backstage at Crown Jewel but did not appear on camera. Ambrose did promotional interviews with the local media and accompanied his wife Renee Young, who worked on the broadcast team for the show.”

Ambrose and Young

Obviously, Young working Crown Jewel is quite an unprecedented step in that country and no one could predict how that would go down, so having her safety at this forefront of his mind is perfectly natural.

Why that would have prevented him working the show is a little more unclear, but if WWE's plans are for Rollins and Ambrose to have their final battle at WrestleMania 35, they would be wise to drag this feud out as much as they can.

Now the WWE are heading to the UK where Raw and SmackDown Live will take place next week and Survivor Series is just two weeks away.
