After losing their opening two Premier League matches - to Manchester City and Chelsea - Arsenal are now 14 matches unbeaten.

Unai Emery’s side actually went on an 11-match winning run following those two losses - although that wasn’t enough to convince everyone.

The opponents during that run were: West Ham, Cardiff, Newcastle, Vorskla, Everton, Brentford, Watford, Qarabag, Fulham, Leicester and Sporting.

And due to the quality of the opposition, many weren’t convinced by their winning streak.

One of those that failed to be impressed was Paul Merson.

Last week, the former Gunner made a rather bold prediction ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool.

"If they don't lose by more than three goals next week, I'll be shocked. They're not in the same class as this Liverpool team,” Merson said on Gillette Soccer Saturday.

“If Liverpool turn up and they fancy it, they will rip Arsenal to absolute shreds.

“They're just waiting to get found out! They're like a boxer with a dodgy chin who hasn't been hit yet, as soon as he gets hit he's just going to spark.”

Well, Merson must have been ‘shocked’ come Saturday night after Arsenal achieved a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

And, as you’d expect, Merson is now getting plenty of stick from Arsenal fans on social media.

And he’s now responded.

On Sunday morning, Merson tweeted: “Fair play to @Arsenal, I got that wrong yesterday and I’m sooo glad they made me eat my words. Clear they are improving every week #holdmyhandsup I never want Arsenal to do badly! I just give my honest opinion about everyone at the time I’m asked.”

Fair play to Merson for holding up his hands and admitting he was wrong.

But in truth, his prediction did make him look a bit foolish.
