It’s two wins out of two for Santiago Solari at Real Madrid.
Solari is currently the interim manager at the Bernabeu after the sacking of Julen Lopetegui following their 5-1 humbling in last week’s El Clasico.
The former Real Madrid player didn’t have long to get comfortable before taking his side to Segunda Division side Melilla on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey.
And Solari led a much-changed Madrid side to a comfortable 4-0 victory.
But it’s La Liga where the European champions seriously need to improve.
Solari picked up Real in ninth place, seven points behind Barcelona.
Solari’s side put an end to three successive league defeats on Saturday with a late 2-0 victory over Valladolid to lift them to sixth.
Junior Vinicius put the home side ahead in the 83rd-minute before Sergio Ramos’ 88th-minute penalty wrapped up the three points.
It was only Madrid’s fifth victory in the league but they’re now only three points from Atletico Madrid, who occupy second.
And it seems some of their players are in disbelief that they actually won.
Well, that’s judging by Toni Kroos’ tweet on Sunday afternoon.
The German played 90 minutes against and he simply tweeted: “We won a league game yesterday.”
It was Madrid’s first league win since September 22, when they scraped past Espanyol 1-0.
Madrid will now be hoping to put together a winning streak in an attempt to haul back Barca’s seven-point advantage.
And following their victory over Valladolid, Solari saw plenty of positives.
“I want to be positive, not negative," he said.
"I'd love to win every game 7-0 but I know how football is: it is tough and there are moments when the dynamics are better, times when things are delicate and require order, commitment, focus, impetus and competitive desire. Today we showed all of those things”.News Now - Sport News
