Ten-man Port Vale beat Crewe 2-1 in the Staffordshire derby to move within one point of npower League Two leaders Chesterfield.

Vale took the lead when Louis Dodds' nodded home Doug Loft's cross before Marc Richards scored from the spot against his old side to double the home side's advantage. Anthony Griffith earned a second yellow for his handball in the box and Clayton Donaldson pulled one back from the spot for the visitors.

Stevenage frustrated Chesterfield at Broadhall Way, where the match ended goalless to end the away side's five-match winning run.

Goals from Craig Disley and Matt Harrold helped Shrewsbury up to fourth with a 2-1 win over Barnet, who had Jordan Parkes on the scoresheet.

Terry Gornell's second-half goal pulled one back for Accrington Stanley after Cheltenham had raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Brian Smikle and Jeff Goulding. Glen Little put Aldershot ahead but Darren Jones' dismissal allowed Bury to race into a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Mike Jones (two) and Nicholas Ajose, before Marvin Morgan's dismissal completed a miserable afternoon for the home side.

Bradford put Oxford to the sword with a ruthless 5-0 thrashing in a bad-tempered encounter at Valley Parade. Lee Hendrie, Dave Syers, Louis Moult and Omar Daley (twice) were on the scoresheet for the home side, who ended the match with 10 men after James Hanson was sent off.
