Alvaro Morata has hit a good run of form for Chelsea of late - notching four goals in as many games for the Blues.

Morata netted a brace in Chelsea’s most recent win as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to remain undefeated this season, currently sitting second in the Premier League two points behind leaders Manchester City.

Since Morata’s arrival from Real Madrid in 2017, the Spanish forward has endured an inconsistent run in the side falling behind to Olivier Giroud in Chelsea’s striking pecking order towards the latter end of last season.

However, after Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge this season, he has handed Morata 11 starts in all competitions with the striker netting six times.

Despite this, Sarri admitted the 26-year-old forward still needs to improve mentally and physically - while Morata gave a strange explanation for why he has struggled to remain consistent following his move from Spain.

Morata's excuse for inconsistency

“I had a period where everything – if it is raining, I’m angry because it’s raining. If I miss, it’s because the pitch is too wet,” Morata claimed.

“It was only excuses. It is not good. Everyone can have a bad period in their life, but we are famous, we have a lot of things.

“Sometimes people think we are not human, with no feelings, with no problems.

“The important thing is to find the right balance. Now, I have, and I am very happy. I’m better.

“In the last month of last season, I was down, down, down, down. I cannot be more down.

“When you touch the limit, the only thing you can do is to come back.”

Morata has played in Serie A with Juventus while also having stints in the Real Madrid side playing in La Liga.

His time spent playing in Italy and Spain would no doubt have seen much drier pitches, however this can’t be an excuse for a £57 million rated striker.

However, for Morata and Chelsea it can only be hopped the forward has adapted more to playing conditions of the Premier League now the Spaniard is in his second season in England.
