Liverpool made light work of Red Star Belgrade at Anfield two weeks ago, recording an emphatic 4-0 victory.A brace from Mohamed Salah, plus additional goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, lifted the Reds to the top of Group C above Napoli.Liverpool were the firm favourites against the same the same opponents on Tuesday evening in Belgrade, but were left shocked after going 2-0 down inside the opening half-hour.Milan Pavkov opened the scoring for the hosts in the 22nd minute with a towering header from a Marko Marin corner.Pavkov then made it 2-0 with a long-range effort which goalkeeper Alisson Becker will really feel he should have done better with.This was an unusually poor team performance from Liverpool, who failed to recover from the first half. Perhaps the hostile atmosphere inside the Rajko Mitić Stadium got to Jurgen Klopp’s players.Footage of the away fans all chanting “F*** you, Liverpool” prior to kick-off suggested this was not a night for timid characters.Reds’ fans on social media were particularly scathing of the performances of two players.Joel Matip and Adam Lallana were in the starting line-up in place of Joe Gomez and Fabinho, respectively, and were blasted on Twitter.Lallana was finally subbed off for Divock Origi with 10 minutes remaining. Matip, meanwhile, was fortunate to last the full 90.‘Recipe for disaster’ seemed to be a common theme after seeing the pair in the starting XI.

Before that, though, Liverpool will be confident of getting back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, when they host Fulham, who currently occupy bottom spot in the Premier League table.
