Manchester City hardly need help to win football matches these days, do they? However, they got an almighty helping hand by referee Viktor Kassai in their Champions League clash against Shakhtar on Wednesday night.Pep Guardiola made a couple of changes to his starting line-up ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby. But that didn’t stop City from running riot in the first-half.Riyad Mahrez did brilliantly to tee up David Silva, with the Spaniard tapping home to give the home side a 13th-minute lead. Then, 11 minutes later, the Hungarian referee made one of the most incredible penalty decisions in recent memory.Raheem Sterling closed in on goal and kicked the turf as he tried to shoot.Remarkably, Kassai pointed to the penalty spot.Unsurprisingly, Shakhtar players went ballistic but the ref simply wasn’t listening. And replays showed just what an awful decision is really was.

FOOTBALL FANS REACT

And here’s how football fans reacted - claiming it was one of the worst penalty decisions ever:

After City lost their opening group game at home to Lyon, they’ve taken control of Group F.

If they hold onto their 2-0 lead against Shakhtar - and Lyon hold onto their 2-0 lead against Hoffenheim - City will have guaranteed qualification.

But they currently sit one point ahead of Lyon and still need to travel to France, before hosting Hoffenheim.

Guardiola and his incredible side will no doubt be hoping to go all the way in the competition this season.

They could only reach the quarter-finals last campaign, where they were beaten over two-legs by Liverpool.
