Rangers scored three during their Europa League clash against Spartak Moscow but still ended up on the losing side. The Scottish outfit lead 3-2 at the break, but two second-half goals in the space of two minutes gave the hosts a 4-3 victory. It really was a disappointing results for Rangers, who lead 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 during the game.Rangers now find themselves in third place in Group G and in serious danger of not qualifying to the knockout stages.Steven Gerrard had every right to be upset with the result. And he gave a quite brutal assessment of the game in an interview with BT Sport. When asked by BT Sport if the defensive changes he made played a part in their frailties at the back, Gerrard replied: "possibly. I'll take responsibility for that."But then Gerrard's tone changed rather quickly as he launched an extraordinary attack on his back four."But, I think, under 12's and under 13's can normally clear the ball with either foot and when you get a little bit older you learn to play the game positionally."So I'm a bit confused over that one."

Ouch. That's some dig at his defenders. Gerrard ended the segment by saying 'he couldn't be too critical', but that does seems pretty brutal.

The former Liverpool player expanded further in a separate post-match interview.

“I’m very disappointed with the result," he said, per the Daily Record. "You saw two sides of our performance tonight.

"We attacked very well and were very dangerous and countered very bravely and got our rewards and took control at half time."

Gerrard then had another dig at his defence.

“However, football is about levels and if you don’t do the basics well enough and defend properly then high level teams will normally punish you and that was the case here," he continued.

“We didn’t do the basics well enough or clear our lines at the right times and on other occasions we were not in the right positions.

“People who have had a lot of praise and who did really well to get us to this stage just didn’t do the basics well enough.

“Normally, to come here and score three goals you get a result but I’m bitterly disappointed with how we defended tonight.”

It's clear that Gerrard wasn't too impressed with his defence at all.
