Arsenal's home game against Sporting Lisbon was anything but a thriller.

The Gunners did seal their passage to the last-16 of the Europa League, but couldn't find the back of the net as they were held to a 0-0 draw by the Portuguese side.

It's the first time Arsenal have failed to score in a game since the opening day loss against Manchester City.

Sadly, the fixture was marred by a serious injury to Danny Welbeck, who fell awkwardly on his ankle midway through the second-half.

Stephan Lichtsteiner was also taken off with what looked like a hamstring injury.

Unai Emery decided to heavily rotate his side, with one eye clearly on Sunday's game against Wolves at the Emirates.

Welbeck, Lichtsteiner, Matteo Guendouzi and Emile Smith-Rowe were all brought into the side to freshen things up.

And cult hero Carl Jenkinson was even handed a rare start at left-back.

He's spent time on loan at West Ham and Birmingham in recent seasons, but is now getting some game time under Emery.

But his lack of competitive football really showed against Sporting, with Jenkinson struggling to keep up with the slow pace of the game.

However, he did produce one moment that had Arsenal fans in stitches.

Early in the second-half, the ball popped out to Jenkinson on the edge of the area and his attempt at a volley didn't exactly go to plan.

Needless to say, supporters had to have a little giggle at Jenkinson's expense.

ARSENAL FANS REACT

Don't think Jenkinson will be starting a Premier League game anytime soon.

With Lichtsteiner, Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all well ahead of him, Jenkinson will surely be leaving the club sooner rather than later.

After watching him at the Emirates against Sporting, he may be short of suitors come the January transfer window.
