Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham has vowed to see out his career at the Britannia Stadium after clinching a new one-year contract.

Last week's announcement means the 31-year-old is now tied to the Potteries outfit until 2013. He had no hesitation in signing an extension even though he is not currently part of Tony Pulis' first-choice line-up.

"I would love to see out my career here," Higginbotham told the Stoke Sentinel. "I have been here four years now and this is where I've enjoyed my career the most."

He added: "I'm settled in the area. I'm close to my family, I got married in the summer and there's a lot of good people at this football club."

Top of that list is Pulis, whose persuasion first brought Higginbotham north from Southampton in 2006 and that was quick to offer a route back to the club once it became apparent the former Manchester United trainee had not settled on Wearside.

"It is no coincidence the manager has brought out the best out in me," said Higginbotham.

"People questioned me coming to Stoke but the manager sold the club to me.

"He has got the knack of bringing the best out of players and he really resurrected my career. I have a lot to thank him for."
