Sebastian Vettel has fun in the cockpit ahead of Brazilian Grand Prix

F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain - Practice

Sebastian Vettel was able to find a little time for humour despite having already conceded the World Championship during the second practice session ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Vettel finished third in P2, behind pace setter Valtteri Bottas and freshly crowned champion Lewis Hamilton, both of Mercedes, and appeared to be having some issues in his cockpit.

His cheeky comments about a foreign object between his feet, that was later confirmed to be a loose screw, will no doubt have brought a smile from his team, as he registered a definite contender for team radio message of 2018 - scroll down to see the video.

“There’s something loose between my legs… Apart from the obvious.

“Something flying around my feet. I’d be proud if it was what you think it is, but it’s not!”

After the session, Vettel revealed the source of the problem was actually a loose screw, but still saw the funny side.

"Maybe it came out wrong," he told Autosport.

"I think the biggest worry we had today was a little screw that came loose and was somewhere between my feet," he said.

"We found it in the end!

"I said it [the message], and once I said it I thought 'no, don't get it wrong!' so I had to say it again. It was funny.

"But we found it in the end, it was a little screw."

The German struggled with tyre wear on Friday and anticipates some difficult conditions ahead of the race on Sunday.

“We need to find it [the right setup] still. I think the car has been okay but not good yet so there is still some work to do,” Vettel continued.

“I think especially come Sunday, I don’t think it is supposed to be hotter.

“It could be a tricky one for tyres.”

“It was already tricky for us today so we are in the ballpark but I think we can still launch forward from there.”
