Gordon Hayward returned to Utah for the first time since leaving the Jazz 16 months ago, but saw his Boston Celtics defeated 123-115 at the Vivint Smart Home Arena.After missing most of last year with a nasty ankle injury, Hayward had 13 points and seven assists on Friday night but his former team came out on top thanks to 27 points from Joe Ingles.The shooting guard tied for his career best and added a season-high seven assists and combined for a total of 68 points with Donovan Mitchell and Jae Crowder.

In Philadelphia, the 76ers edged the Charlotte Hornets 133-132 in overtime, with Joel Embiid racking up a season-high 42 points.

Fighting a 21-point deficit, the Hornets pulled it back to lead by five before the end of regulation, Kemba Walker adding 19 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter.

But Ben Simmons – with 22 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists – helped secured the win with a driving lay-up in the dying seconds.

Stanley Johnson, meanwhile, recorded a season-high 22 points as the Detroit Pistons beat the Atlanta Hawks 124-109.

The Pistons grabbed an early lead, leaving the Hawks 23 points behind by half-time, and Andre Drummond added his 300th double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

The Brooklyn Nets won their third game in a row with a 112-110 victory over the Denver Nuggets as Caris LeVert claimed the winner with 0.3 seconds left on the clock and Nikola Jokic dominated with a season best of 37 points.

Meahwhile, the Indiana Pacers beat the Miami Heat 110-102, the Orlando Magic defeated the Washington Wizards 117-108, and the Sacramento Kings toppled the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-110.
