Fans were left stunned in Manchester after last week's edition of Raw where Drew McIntyre thoroughly dismantled Kurt Angle in the main event.

The Scottish Terminator has already been named to Raw's Survivor Series team alongside Dolph Ziggler and Braun Strowman, but two spots remain on the five-man team.

Angle was competing for the right to not only fight on the team, but captain it.

He was meant to fight incumbent captain Baron Corbin for that right, but the acting general manager inserted McIntyre in his place at this last minute.

While it was a late change on-screen, it was thoroughly planned behind the scenes according to Sports Illustrated.

Angle hit the Angle Slam on McIntyre after some early pressure, but then McIntyre would not only nail his Claymore Kick, but he would also hit his own Angle Slam and force Angle to submit via his own submission maneuver, the Ankle Lock.

According to the report, Angle met with Vince McMahon ahead of Raw last Monday and came up with the match story, but it was Angle who went and pitched the creative to McIntyre.

It's no secret that the WWE are incredibly high on McIntyre and it seems like the company has big plans for him in 2019.

Some reports are even suggesting that Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre are the two front-runners in Vince McMahon's eyes to dethrone Brock Lesnar for the Universal title in 2019.

There was some history between McIntyre and Angle going into the match on RAW as they wrestled twice in 2016 while with TNA. It was reported that they were only meant to wrestle each other once, but Angle specifically requested another match with McIntyre before he parted ways with the company, noting that he wanted to put McIntyre over.

Their last match in TNA took place from Manchester, England - the same city as last Monday's RAW match. Coincidence, we're sure, but an interesting tidbit nonetheless.
