Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in brining Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Chilean wing wizard's agent has confirmed that the Red Devils have made contact regarding a deal.
Ferguson has been tracking the talented youngster ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford for Real Madrid, and the 21-year-old has done his chances no harm with an impressive World Cup in South Africa this summer.
Alexis Sanchez has picked up the nickname 'El Nino Maravilla', which translates as the wonder boy. He has become a firm fan favourite at Udinese this season following a string of eye-catching performances and is best known for his trickery and pace.
The player’s agent Fernando Felicevich has told Italian media in an interview: “Yes they (Manchester United) are watching him, and it could be a possibility in the future.
“I have heard that another Premier League club also enquired, but they didn’t contact me. For the time being the only thing I have heard is from Manchester United. “ He continued.
“The Premier League is a very interesting destination for Alexis (Sanchez) but it is only Manchester at the moment. The price? I don’t know, it is up to the club, it is not for me to discuss transfer fees.
“I think his style is perfect for the Premier League, he is very fast, very young, and strong, which I think you need to succeed in the Premier League.”
Sanchez would provide Manchester United with another option on the wing. He has pace, power, and skill in absence and would excite crowds, in a way that United legend Cristiano Ronaldo used to.
With Ryan Giggs close to retirement and Antonio Valencia currently injured, United a short of options out wide, apart from the Portuguese star Nani. He can play on either side and has an eye for goal, and with Sanchez on one wing and Nani on the other, United's wide men would be feared across Europe.
Sanchez would likely demand a fee in the region of £15-20 million and the player himself has already won the praise of his potential new manager.
Ferguson was quoted earlier on in the year as saying: “He's a young player with a very promising future," said Ferguson.
"Sanchez has so much talent, that if he continues his progression, he could reach the level of Cristiano Ronaldo."
Reports during the World Cup suggested the player would love to engineer a move to Manchester United in January, and also told teammates in the summer it is his dream to play at Old Trafford.
One of his Chile teammates is quoted as saying: “All Alexis wants is to play for Manchester United,”
“He'd give anything for that.”
