After making a huge move to land Jon Gruden as their new head coach back in the offseason, many expected the Oakland Raiders to come out all guns blazing in 2018.

With Gruden at the helm, someone who likes to go for the jugular, we thought that the Raiders could finally get back to where they belong.

But then we saw the moves that were being made...Khalil Mack being traded to the Chicago Bears was just the cherry on the top of an awful summer that saw the Raiders become the oldest team in the league by some distance.

And one of those old-timers that was brought in by Gruden, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson, is now taking drastic action to get out of Oakland.

According to reports emanating from around the Raiders camp, Nelson decided yesterday that he had finally had enough of being in such a dysfunctional team and looks set to retire from football altogether.

The news was first reported by Chris Reed of Silver & Black Today and CBS Sports Radio’s Scott Gulbransen.

Despite being active for all nine of the Raiders games this season, Nelson has struggled for his consistency during his initial season in Oakland.

Heading into Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Nelson had caught 25 passes for 353 yards and three touchdowns.

However, 173 of these yards came in week three against the Miami Dolphins and apart from that he's been very, very quiet.

Nelson had an amazing career at the Packers, being Aaron Rodgers' favourite target for a number of years as he made a Pro Bowl in 2014 and put up some incredible numbers.

If this is the end, it'll be sad to see him go.
