Harry Redknapp has been confirmed as one of the 10 celebrities who will appear on reality television show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!Yes, really.Former professionals have headed to the jungle in recent years, including Jimmy Bullard, Kieron Dyer, Wayne Bridge and Dennis Wise. Now it’s the turn of Redknapp, who has been out of management since September 2017.At the age of 71, it’s rather surprising for Redknapp to make such a move. He’s spent his time away from the dugout as a pundit and as an advisor to Australian team Central Coast Mariners. It’s a pretty relaxed lifestyle for someone who has spent so many years in football.

Southampton's tweet is superb

But now he’s ready for a different change of pace and there will be many football fans tuning in just to see how Redknapp fares with the critters.

His appearance on the show has prompted a superb tweet from one of the clubs he used to manage, Southampton.

After Redknapp’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity was confirmed, they joked on Twitter: “Careful Harry doesn’t leave you halfway through to join @bbcstrictly 🙄 #saintsfc”.

Good banter, that.

It's in reference to Redknapp's return to Portsmouth after resigning as Southampton manager in 2005.

Redknapp became the Southampton boss in December 2004, weeks after quitting as Portsmouth boss.

But Redknapp was back as Portsmouth’s manager a year later. Southampton were relegated in the 2004-05 season and, after an inconsistent start to the 2005-06 Championship campaign, he resigned as the Saints manager.

Where did he end up? Back at Fratton Park.

It was a controversial move and one that Southampton haven’t forgotten.

Redknapp doubts that his time in the jungle will be as tough as what he went through as a manager.

“There’s nothing tougher than being a manager of a football team when things aren’t going well,” the former Tottenham Hotspur boss said.

“When the results are bad, believe you me, being a manager is a very tough, lonely occupation.

“So no, I don’t think doing this will be tougher.”

We'll see if Redknapp is saying the same thing when he's starving and surrounded by creepy crawlies.
