The Premier League is home to several of the finest footballers on the planet and, as per usual, they’re firing on all cylinders yet again this season.

Some players have hit their stride quicker their others, of course, but there’s still just under six months left for the strugglers to turn things around.

On the flip side, certain individuals will never get going and simply coast through each round of fixtures until May comes around.

Luckily, though, football fans have been treated to seeing Eden Hazard, David Silva and Mohamed Salah produce a series of displays close to the best they can offer.

But they’re not alone in that regard, so how would an all-star line-up of the top-performing players in the English top-flight look at this stage of the campaign?

Well, thanks to the Sky Sports Power Rankings, we can build such an XI two-and-a-half months into the season.

GOALKEEPER | HUGO LLORIS

The Tottenham goalkeeper narrowly edges out Ederson, having kept four clean sheets and made twice as many saves in four fewer appearances than his Manchester City counterpart.

Other contenders: Ederson, Alisson and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

CENTRE-BACKS | SHKODRAN MUSTAFI & AYMERIC LAPORTE

It might come as a surprise that Virgil van Dijk and Harry Maguire are nowhere to be seen in the back four - but there’s a reason.

Sky Sports concede their ranking system is biased towards attacking qualities, so it’s no wonder the German leads his peers despite the Gunners leaking 15 goals in 12 matches.

In addition to his lone strike away at Cardiff, Mustafi has also registered superior tackling, aerial, blocking, interception, clearance and duels figures to his nearest rival, City’s Laporte.

Other contenders: Virgil van Dijk, Michael Keane, Shane Duffy, Steve Cook and Harry Maguire.

FULL-BACKS | KIERAN TRIPPIER & MARCOS ALONSO

Spurs’ second representative slots in thanks to his impressive haul of 26 tackles, one goal - a long-range drive against Fulham, no less - and three assists.

Chelsea’s Spanish defender has maintained the attacking influence he provided as a wing-back under Antonio Conte despite operating as a conventional full-back for Maurizio Sarri.

With one goal scored, 15 chances created from open play and 63 duels won, Alonso gets the nod over Benjamin Mendy, Jose Holebas and Andy Robertson.

Other contenders: Jose Holebas, Andy Robertson, Matt Doherty, Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker.

CENTRE-MIDFIELDERS | DAVID SILVA & GYLFI SIGURDSSON

Topping the competition in opportunities created from open play with 31, no Premier League Team of the Season worth its salt could exclude the City playmaker.

At the expense of his City colleague Fernandinho, Everton's Sigurdsson sneaks in, largely due to his tally of five goals and two for the Toffees this term.

Other contenders: Fernandinho, James Maddison, Wilfried Ndidi, Paul Pogba and Granit Xhaka.

WINGERS | MOHAMED SALAH & RAHEEM STERLING

Following a less convincing start to the campaign compared to last year, Salah has rediscovered his mojo to find the net six times while contributing three assists.

Like Salah, Sterling has already bagged six goals as he continues to thrive under the management of Pep Guardiola.

The City winger has been more effective in a team sense than his Liverpool rival, though, with five assists to his name, too.

Other contenders: Felipe Anderson, Willian, Bernardo Silva, Lucas Moura and Ryan Fraser.

FORWARDS | SERGIO AGUERO & EDEN HAZARD

The man leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot was bound to be the first name on the team sheet in the final third.

As well as assisting a City colleague four times to date this season, Aguero has struck eight goals from just 19 shots on target while creating the same amount of chances.

Hazard may have started only eight of 12 league matches since Sarri took charge, but he’s always been one to make a big impact, no matter the limitations placed upon him.

The Belgian’s seven goals put him at least two clear of any other Chelsea, while only Olivier Giroud can match him for assists.

Other contenders: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Richarlison, Harry Kane and Callum Wilson.
