Marouane Fellaini has been a bit of a divisive figure since he followed David Moyes from Everton to Manchester United.

The Belgian giant has never quite been able to establish himself as a firm favourite at Old Trafford despite regularly popping up with valuable contributions and goals.

In spite of the uncertainty in the stands surrounding his ability, both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have been happy to employ Fellaini in their midfields and sometimes even as a forward.

Fellaini has been a regular member of one of Belgium’s most talented squads ever and continues to find himself in contention at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

In other words, he must be a lot better than what fans are giving him credit for.

One thing that football fans in general have always agreed upon when it comes to the 30-year-old though, has been just how special his afro is.

Fellaini’s hair has always been part and parcel of who he is.

Who can forget referee Mike Dean’s reaction when he came into close contact with the famous fro?

Now, however, the football world is in outcry after Fellaini posted a picture to his Instagram account revealing that he has just about shaved his head.

That’s right folks, the fro is gone. A sad day for football indeed.

Fellaini used to be all afro and elbows but now he really is just elbows and nothing else.

You can’t help but feel he just won’t be as intimidating without his famous do.

And while football fans are bemoaning the loss, some fellow professionals have even joined in, questioning the decision to axe the afro.

Manchester City club captain Vincent Kompany had perhaps the best response, commenting on the post:

“It’s photoshopped! It can’t be true”.

We feel your pain, Vincent.

Eric Bailly also got in on the act while compatriot Dries Mertens had his say on the new look.

It is safe to say that the Belgian’s new cut hasn’t gone down well.

One thing is for certain, the Premier League just won’t be the same without Fellaini’s afro.
