When Paige returned after over a year away from the ring in November 2017, the WWE Universe were genuinely thrilled to see the 'Anti-Diva'.
A neck injury and subsequent surgery had sidelined the former NXT and Divas Champion, but she was deemed able to return to the squared circle last year.
But her life was about to take another dramatic twist.
At a house show in Long Island last December, a kick to Paige's back by Sasha Banks left her unable to feel anything in her arms, and caused her to announce her retire a few months later.
Speaking exclusively to GiveMeSport a few months ago, Paige defended Banks in relation to the incident, and claimed her neck was just not as strong as it used to be.
The likelihood is that because Paige had been wrestling from such a young age, the wear and tear of the sport had just taken its toll.
After months of being by the side of newcomers Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, Paige decided to announce to the world her retirement on the Raw after WrestleMania this year, and the next night was placed as the new General Manager of SmackDown.
And when a fan tweeted Paige yesterday claiming he had heard she'd been cleared, her response was really heartbreaking to read.
Paige simply stated: "Nope. I’m not. At all. One more knock to my neck could result in paralysis. Don’t read “facts” on the internet. As much as I want that to be true it’s 100% not."
We all want Paige to be back in a WWE ring, but unlike Daniel Bryan, it looks like we're going to be starved of the Englishwoman's prime years.
And the threat of paralysis if she takes another bump is as good a reason as any to step away from the ring, no matter how much you love being a WWE superstar.
What the WWE Universe would do to see Paige go up against the likes of Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley one more time, and a one-on-one with Ronda Rousey would certainly get pulses racing.
