It's difficult to keep Kylian Mbappe out of the news these days - he always has something going on.

It could be a new record to break, such as becoming the first two-time 'Golden Boy' in the history of the award.

And following his clean sweep with Paris Saint-Germain last season and, of course, his World Cup win, Mbappe is firmly in the mix for the Ballon d'Or.

The teenager spoke about the award recently, declaring that it should be heading towards French arms, thus breaking up the Lionel Messi/Cristiano Ronaldo duopoly.

"Frankly, I hope [a France player wins it]," he told AFP. "We achieved something big. It would not be unjust because that is a strong word, but it would be a shame if a Frenchman does not win it.

"We made history and it would be nice to be rewarded."

But while the debate over the best player of 2018 rages on, Mbappe was handed a task: pick and choose attributes from current stars to build the undisputed best.

In his interview with ESPN, Mbappe picked out four players that would make up his 'perfect' footballer.

"Messi's left foot, Neymar's right foot, Cristiano Ronaldo's mentality and [Gianluigi] Buffon's class," he said.

You've got to admit, it's difficult to come up with a better answer than that.

In reality, however, there is no perfect player and the race for the Ballon d'Or is hotter than it's been in a decade.

It was recently suggested that half the votes had been counted and left a top three of Luka Modric, Raphael Varane, and Kylian Mbappe - something that looks very different to recent times.

That top three certainly shows how the World Cup weights opinions when it comes to performances - something that Mbappe feels is natural.

"Nobody is doing better at the moment [than Messi and Ronaldo] and we can't say it's the end of their era because it will only end when somebody else does better than them," Mbappe has said.

"I don't think one of them will win the Ballon d'Or this year because it was a World Cup year, and the World Cup takes precedence."

It would certainly all be a lot easier if Mbappe's 'perfect' player existed.
