Manchester United are in a difficult position right now with doubts over exactly what their best team is.

Despite massive investment, Jose Mourinho appears to lack confidence in virtually every area of his squad, excluding the extra reliable David de Gea, of course.

We've seen all kinds of centre-back pairings this season - Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof were signed for a considerable amount of money but Mourinho doesn't seem confident with either.

The midfield appears to lack balance, despite the £47m signing of Fred in the summer, and the debate rages on over Paul Pogba's ideal role in the side.

As for the attack, there are plenty of options at Mourinho's disposal but both the shape and the names still need settling on.

Few people can say with certainty how United should line up in attack, especially with a good few players wanting to fill the same roles.

One person who does, however, is former United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian was speaking to the Mirror where he revealed that he wants to see United play with a front three.

"Anthony Martial, he is number one for me, he is a player who has everything," said Berbatov. "I like Marcus Rashford as well, so both those players on the sides of the wings."

As for the man in the middle, Berbatov offered a ringing endorsement of Romelu Lukaku as he suggested the Belgian needs more help.

"I like Lukaku, no matter what harsh judgement he gets, he’s a good player," he said. "He’s powerful and quick but he needs more support.

"It’s easy to criticise and judge but he needs support give him a push to boost his confidence.

"Martial on the right, Marcus Rashford on the left and Lukaku up front. But you know, I’m not the coach."

With Alexis Sanchez struggling to find his place at United, Berbatov's suggestion does seem like the most natural attack for the side right now.

Still, you can bet that there's not an answer that would totally satisfy everyone - much like the rest of the side.
