Virgil van Dijk has been an absolute revelation at Liverpool. The giant Dutchman has transformed Liverpool’s leaky backline into one of the hardest nuts to crack in England - and all in less than a year.Having missed out on his dream move to Anfield in the summer of 2017, both Van Dijk and Liverpool made getting the centre back to Merseyside as soon as possible their absolute number one priority. As a result, Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender four days before the January transfer window even opened.Plenty of questions were asked about the staggering £75 million fee Liverpool coughed up at the time, but, in a period of only a few months the 27-year-old has more than proved his worth. The Dutch captain has been absolutely imperious since his arrival, marshalling the defence and providing the leadership that the Reds had so desperately been lacking since the retirement of Jamie Carragher. As a result, Liverpool have conceded just five goals in the league this season, while keeping seven clean sheets.Powerful in the air, calm on the ball and an ability to read the game better than most makes Van Dijk the full package and Liverpool fans are certainly glad to have him at Anfield.

Clip of Van Dijk’s brilliant free-kicks

However, while Van Dijk’s defensive prowess makes him one of the best in the world at the back, Liverpool fans have recently rediscovered one of their monster defenders forgotten talents.

During his time at Celtic before making his move to the Premier League, Van Dijk was one of the first to step up to take free-kicks for the Scottish club.

And did he score some absolute bangers, too.

Watch some of his best work below:

Blimey.

Some of those have absolutely flown into the net.

Granted it is in the Scottish league, but regardless, Van Dijk has struck those perfectly and the power he generates off a rather casual run-up is quite scary.

Perhaps Van Dijk should be making more of an argument for himself at free-kick time for Liverpool.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold, Xherdan Shaqiri and Mohamed Salah quite capable of slotting home from a a free-kick as well, Liverpool really are spoiled for choice.
