Marek Hamsik is hoping Napoli’s Europa League clash tonight will bring him to the attention of visiting Manchester United scouts.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Premier League since impressing at the World Cup earlier this year but his Italian side have so far resisted selling.

However, despite their president’s claims he ‘laughed’ amidst speculation Sir Alex Ferguson was preparing a £35 million offer for Hamsik and Edison Cavani, the Old Trafford club are continuing to monitor the midfield star.

And Manchester United will follow up their tentative interest by sending scouts to Anfield today to watch him against arch-rivals Liverpool.

Roy Hodgson is also reported to be chasing Hamsik in the January transfer window and Liverpool have already admitted they are looking for a £20 million player.

And the Napoli ace has admitted he would love to play in the Premier League and, despite Liverpool’s interest, Manchester United will remain the favourites for his signature.

The Slovakian said: “I am pleased people want to see me. I want to perform well on this stage against a team like Liverpool at Anfield.

“I know the English league is a great league with a wonderful atmosphere and great stadia. There are rumours but no-one has contacted me or the club. I am calm and relaxed and just want to play well for Napoli.”
