Jose Mourinho could do with adding some reinforcements to his Manchester United squad in the January transfer window.Sitting eighth in the Premier League and seven points adrift of the top four, the Red Devils are nowhere close to where they were aiming to be this season. While there’s still time for Mourinho to turn their campaign around, he doesn’t look capable of doing so with the personnel currently at his disposal. The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter boss has occasionally invested in new signings midway through the season, but his success rate certainly leaves something to be desired.Bringing Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford is arguably the only positive example on offer, especially in comparison to his other winter dealings. At the collective expense of almost £75 million, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Cuadrado and Mohamed Salah all flopped in Manchester and London respectively. That said, it’s never easy for players to congeal with their new manager and teammates six months into the campaign.Nevertheless, Mourinho’s poor track record is unlikely to curb his transfer ambitions come January - in fact, he’s already lined up his first target.

MANCHESTER UNITED WANT DIEGO GODIN AGAIN

According to the Mirror, United are preparing another approach for Diego Godin after the player and his representatives rejected their advances during the summer.

The Uruguayan is stalling on extending his current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano, though it’s understood Atletico Madrid are desperate to agree fresh terms as soon as possible.

The uncertain situation could see one of the best defenders in the world become available for a bargain price of around £20 million.

MANCHESTER UNITED FANS REACT

However, the Red Devils faithful aren’t entirely convinced the 32-year-old would be a worthwhile acquisition…

Although their reservations about his age are understandable to some extent, there are certainly less attractive options on the table.

Mourinho is reportedly considering loaning Gary Cahill from Chelsea as the England international grows frustrated with his lack of first-team football.

The Mirror also claims: “The Blues are prepared to sanction Cahill’s temporary exit with boss Maurizio Sarri unable to offer the 32 year-old enough game time to keep him happy.”
