Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated world football over the past decade, sharing five Ballon d’Ors each since 2008.
However, next month, the two superstars look set to miss out on the accolade to Croatian Luka Modric.
Modric helped Real Madrid win the Champions League before leading his Croatian side to the World Cup final.
And with Messi and Ronaldo crashing out of the summer’s tournament in the last-16 stage, it’s maybe not too surprising that they’re not frontrunners to win the Ballon d’Or this time around.
But their goalscoring records have still been pretty ridiculous for club and country.
Messi has scored 44 goals in 47 appearances, while Ronaldo has notched 43 in 44 games.
They will no doubt be keeping an eye on each other before the turn of the year to see who scores the most goals in the calendar.
However, there’s actually one player that has scored more than both.
No, really.

Baghdad Bounedjah is better than Messi and Ronaldo…
Well, not quite but the Algerian has had a pretty incredible 2018.
For Al Said in Qatar’s Stars League, Bounedjah scored a mind-blowing 42 goals in just 27 matches. He also scored five times in seven matches for his country in 2018.
Elsewhere, Brazilian Diogo, who plays in Thailand, scored the same amount of goals as Ronaldo. But having played slightly more games than the Portuguese superstar, he has to settle with fourth.
Further down the list, world-class forwards Roberto Lewandowski, Luis Suarez, Mohamed Salah, Antoine Griezmann and Harry Kane appear.
But amongst them are lesser-known players like Luxembourg’s Dave Turtle and Ecuadorian Jhon Cifuente.
Of course, scoring in the likes of La Liga, the Premier League and the Bundesliga is slightly harder than Thailand’s T1, the Luxembourg National Division and the Ecuadorian Serie A.
However, stats are stats and there’s simply no denying that Bounedjah has been the most prolific footballer in 2018.
