If you had any doubt over whether the UEFA Nations League was a good idea, Memphis Depay panenka’d a penalty against world champions France in the 96th-minute to relegate Germany.

If you don’t prefer that to drab international friendlies, then football just isn’t for you.

The Netherlands ran out 2-0 winners against France in Rotterdam to keep their chances of topping League A, Group 1 alive.

The Dutch are now just one point behind France, with one more fixture remaining in the group - Germany vs Netherlands.

Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum put the home side ahead just before half-time before Depay’s last-minute penalty sealed the three points.

Things are certainly looking a lot better for Oranje than they did earlier this year when they failed to qualify for the Russia World Cup.

And it’s hardly surprising given the exciting young talent in their squad right now.

Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong are two of the hottest prospects in world football right now.

And they showed just that against the world champions.

We’ve already shared De Ligt’s brilliant defending against Kylian Mbappe - which you can watch here:

And now, a video has emerged of De Jong bossing N’Golo Kane.

As Kante tries to go past him, De Jong gave him a taste of his own medicine by producing a brilliant sliding tackle to win back possession.

Take a look:

Brilliant.

It wasn’t just that moment, though.

De Jong’s overall performance was terrific. Just check out his individual highlights before.

Not bad for a 21-year-old against the world champions…
