It’s fair to say that Dejan Lovren and Sergio Ramos don’t exactly see eye-to-eye.

It all stems from Ramos’ actions during last season’s Champions League final where he forced Mohamed Salah off with a shoulder injury, before colliding with Loris Karius.

Real Madrid went on to beat Liverpool 3-1 and Ramos was very much painted as the villain.

The two defenders faced off once again on Thursday as Lovren’s Croatian side played Ramos’ Spain side.

Croatia won a dramatic match 3-2 - much to Lovren’s delight.

In an Instagram live video after the game, Lovren said: “Haha! 3-2! Go ahead and talk now buddy. Buddy! They are a bunch of p******.”

He then alluded to an aerial clash with Ramos saying he “elbowed him good.”

Six months on from the Champions League final, this all seems fairly petty from Lovren.

But now Lovren’s Liverpool’s fellow centre-back at Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, has got involved.

This time, Van Dijk was asked about Ramos’ ability as a defender and the Dutchman admitted he isn't a massive fan.

Ramos is often considered as one of the best defenders in world football but it's an opinion Van Dijk disagrees with.

“Ramos is not the best,” Van Dijk told De Telegraaf.

“A great player and I respect what he has achieved, but he is not my type of central defender. Ramos’ teammate at Real Madrid, Raphaël Varane, is my favorite. An excellent defender, young and much won.”

“No, I myself am not of the way of defending Ramos, I try to avoid the situations in which he comes.”

Whether or not Van Dijk’s comments have any relation to what happened in the Champions League final in Kiev is unknown. But you suspect Ramos’ actions that night may have swayed the opinion of everyone associated with Liverpool.
