It's difficult to watch a player so visibly distraught.

When the footage surfaced on social media, Liverpool fans were concerned that Mane had picked up a serious injury.

That doesn't appear to be the case and fans were quick to point out what the reason is likely to be.

Mane was targeted by Senegal fans after missing a golden chance in the second-half, with supporters even booing him.

And it seems the tears were Mane's way of reacting to the harsh treatment from his own supporters.

FANS EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED

Sometimes, players just have to let out their emotions.

Mane is the poster boy of Senegalese football, which is quite the accolade given the presence of Napoli's commanding centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly.

Both Mane and Koulibaly are two of the five nominees for the BBC African Footballer of the Year Award.

Morocco's Mehdi Benatia, Egypt's Mohamed Salah and Ghana's Thomas Parety are the three other nominees, with the award to be presented in Dakar, Senegal's capital.
