Since the whole CM Punk saga back in 2011, WWE hasn't made a habit of letting their top stars' contracts run down.

Vince McMahon has always been a man that likes to hold all the cards and during the summer of Punk, he found himself pretty powerless.

Punk has since revealed he only signed a contract extension with WWE just hours before the Money in the Bank event that was scheduled to be his last and it seems like McMahon has been far more calculated since.

One man that is now locked in talks with the WWE to sign a contract extension is AJ Styles.

The former TNA stalwart has just recently come off a 371-day reign as WWE champion and at 41-years-old, many are wondering how much longer he has in the business.

Nearly a year ago, Styles indicated that he was looking to retire in a couple of years so he could be with his family more.

Appearing on 97.9 The Box in Houston, Styles said: “Work hard now, you enjoy it later,” Styles said. “In a couple of years, I’ll be able to catch every football game, every baseball game, every basketball game, cheerleading, gymnastics, whatever they’re in.”

According to Fightful.com, Styles is in the midst of negotiating a new three-year deal with the WWE, but he has some requests.

Top of Styles' list is to work less dates. The report states that he actually advocated dropping the title to Daniel Bryan recently because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Styles is looking for the same kind of deal Randy Orton has; work all television dates and a select amount of live events.

The Phenomenal One debuted in the WWE back at the Royal Rumble in 2016, so it would appear as though his contract will be up around early 2019.

That's already cutting it fine with WrestleMania season around the corner but with Styles yet to make the switch to Raw, one has to think there are still a lot of miles in having him with the company.
