The dealings between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain this summer certainly weren't as notable as 2017 but that doesn't mean they weren't there.
Late August saw plenty of talk that the French champions wanted to bring World Cup runner-up Ivan Rakitic to Paris and were trying to make it happen.
Barca were clearly having none of it this time, however, and the Croatian remains at the club.
"There has been a lot of talk, but it's done. I'm going to stay here, with a huge amount of excitement," he told Barca TV as the window came to a close.
"Honestly, there is nothing better than defending this crest. I'll give my best and that's that.”
Rakitic also mentioned that he “listened to my wife and my heart,” before singling out Ernesto Valverde's efforts.
“Valverde was also important as he helped me a lot," said Rakitic.
And now a report from Spanish outlet Sport has shown exactly how much of an impact Valverde had on keeping Rakitic at the club - and it really shows how badly he wanted to keep him.
Sport reports that Valverde agreed a 'PSG pact' with Rakitic that if he agreed to ignore their advances, he'd essentially have an omnipresent place in the Barcelona team.
And that has proven the case as Rakitic has played virtually every minute so far, to the point where the rest of the squad are apparently aware of the pact.
But now there are worries that they'll regret the agreement as the 30-year-old struggles with injury.
The fear is that Rakitic's excessive minutes have left him extra susceptible to injury and that is surely something they can't continue with.
While Arthur has enjoyed consistent game time this season, fellow new signing Arturo Vidal has only started two games for Barca - and he'd surely be capable of stepping in to give Rakitic some rest.
There may be a pact in place, but ending it quickly may be for everyone's best.
