Lucas Torreira really has been a revelation at Arsenal in 2018/19.
The Uruguayan international forged an eye-catching reputation with Sampdoria in Serie A and then enjoyed a stellar World Cup campaign with La Celeste.
Arsenal then saw fit to splash around £26.4m on the 22-year-old to finally solve their defensive midfield woes.
However, no one expected the move to yield such quick results.
Torreira has slotted into the Gunners midfield perfectly, helping Granit Xhaka enjoy a much-improved start to the season.
He's everything Arsenal wanted in a defensive midfielder; good on the ball, tenacious in the tackle and possessing the ability to break opposing lines with a pass.
And Torreira has also recorded a very unexpected statistic in the Premier League this season, one which further highlights his impact on the team as a whole.
As written in FourFourTwo by respected journalist Daniel Storey, The Uruguayan midfield general is actually the third most-fouled player in England's top-flight this season.
Top is Chelsea's Eden Hazard, with Crystal Palace's Wilfred Zaha in second.
Behind Torreira are Cardiff's Josh Murphy, Everton's Richarlison and Leicester midfielder James Maddison.
The other names on that list are all very attack-minded, making Torreira's inclusion all the more eye-catching - he's also only started seven of Arsenal's 12 games in the league.
Winning fouls in the middle of the park is such a vital asset for any team, allowing defenders and the rest of the midfield to get back into position and get the ball forward.
Last month, Xhaka lavished praise on Torreira after his instant impact in north London.
“Lucas gives us good balance in the team between offence and defence,” Xhaka said, per Evening Standard.
“He lets me play my game with the ball and go a bit more in front. I am happy with him.
“You can see that he’s important for us because he’s strong in defence and in duels. He can play easily from side to side and going forward, he helps with our balance.”
Unai Emery has a real gem on his hands.
