Virgil van Dijk is proving to be one of the finest bits of business Liverpool have conducted in many a year.

The giant Dutchman arrived on the red half of Merseyside for an eye-watering £75 million - in the process becoming the most expensive defender in the world.

After the embarrassment of missing out on Van Dijk in the summer of 2017, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool remained incredibly determined to sign the centre-back as soon as possible.

As a result, Van Dijk signed four days before the January window of 2018 even opened - such was the Anfield hierarchy’s desire to get a deal done.

Since his arrival Van Dijk has helped to revolutionise what was a terrifyingly shaker backline at Liverpool.

He strolled right into the team and assumed the mantle of defensive leader, pushing the likes of Andrew Robertson, Trent-Alexander and even Dejan Lovren to higher levels.

As a result, Liverpool stole an unlikely march on the Champions League final where, sadly, Van Dijk was powerless to stop Sergio Ramos and co making the famous trophy their own once again.

Now, he has formed a formidable partnership with youngster Joe Gomez as Liverpool have gone about conceding just five goals in the league after 12 games.

It it easy to forget that Van Dijk is less than a year into his Liverpool career and Liverpool fans are still finding more to love about the 6 foot 3 defender’s all-round prowess.

Van Dijk is immense in the air, reads the game better than most and is calm and assured with the ball at his feet.

Van Dijk's special passing range

However, one incredible skill the Dutchman possesses that seems to have gone unnoticed is his passing range.

Van Dijk has proven time and time again that he can hit beautiful diagonal balls of the like not seen at Anfield since the days of Xabi Alonso and a certain Steven Gerrard.

One fan even went so far as to compile a clip all of his best passes so far this season and it makes for pretty good viewing.

Wow.

He really can give it a bit of a ping, can’t he?

Van Dijk continues to prove that he really is the complete footballer and Liverpool fans will only love him more as time goes on.

If he can help to deliver them a trophy, or even (whisper it) the Premier League, his name will surely go down as one of the immortals at Anfield.

It could be a special few years ahead for the Dutchman.
