Davies wants another England call

Bolton striker Kevin Davies believes it would be "absolutely amazing" if he retained his place in the England squad.

With national team boss Fabio Capello looking on, Davies scored twice - one from the penalty spot - in the 4-2 victory over Tottenham.

England face France in a friendly on November 17 and the 33-year-old Davies would love to be included again after winning his first cap against Montenegro, saying: "I am pleased that I helped us win the game, that is the most important thing. We will see what happens when the squad is announced. It will be absolutely amazing (if selected). If not then I will keep doing what I am doing for Bolton."

Capello is short of options in attack with Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Tottenham's Jermain Defoe both sidelined with injury.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is desperate for the striker to return and give his side a lift.

He said: "We have missed Defoe's goals. I am sure he would have five or six already, which makes a massive difference. We miss the little fellow."

Without Rafael Van der Vaart and Aaron Lennon, who both had hamstring injuries, Redknapp saw his side fail to build on the glorious Champions League victory in midweek against holders Inter Milan.

Bolton, who did not allow Gareth Bale the freedom to impose himself as he did against Inter Milan, made the breakthrough in the 29th minute with Tottenham shooting themselves in the foot. Sandro carelessly lost possession to Fabrice Muamba, who played the ball on to Matt Taylor. He found Davies and his finish was clinical.

Redknapp believes Sandro learned a harsh lesson and said: "The ball came into him and he thought he had all the time in the world.

"In Brazil they drop off you, you look up and play, but the ball wasn't there any more. Muamba had sacked him. The ball is shifted to Davies and we are 1-0 down. But Sandro will be a good player."
