Tiemoue Bakayoko was tipped to make a big impact at Stamford Bridge following his £40 million move to Chelsea in the summer of 2017.
The powerful French midfielder caught the eye of Europe’s top clubs thanks to his imposing performances for AS Monaco in the Champions League and Ligue 1 during the 2016-17 campaign.
Antonio Conte was so confident that Bakayoko would be a success in the Premier League that he allowed Chelsea’s previous first-choice holding midfielder, Nemanja Matic, to join rivals Manchester United.
However, Bakayoko was a complete disaster during his first season at the Bridge, failing to cope with the pace of English football’s top division and looking hopelessly out of his depth in many games.
It hardly came as a shock when Maurizio Sarri, Conte’s successor, decided to offload the Frenchman on a season-long loan to AC Milan back in August.
Chelsea fans were hardly shocked, either, when it emerged that Bakayoko has struggled to impress during his first couple of months with the Rossoneri.
The Italian press were particularly scathing of the one-time France international’s performances, with one newspaper describing him as a “disaster” following a Europa League match against Olympiakos.
However, things have picked up for Bakayoko over the past couple of weeks and Milan fans were very pleased with his performance in the 2-0 defeat to Serie A leaders Juventus before the international break.
A growing number of Milan supporters now hope their club can secure Bakayoko on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Fair play to the guy for turning things around.
A video of Bakayoko’s performance v Juve has now emerged on social media - and it’s sparked some debate among Chelsea fans.
Watch the two-minute video here…
Whisper it quietly but he looked terrific here and rather unfortunate to find himself on the losing team at the final whistle.
However, most Chelsea fans seem to be in complete agreement that they don’t want to see Bakayoko back at the Bridge, regardless of how well he performed against Juve.
That’s a shame, to be honest, although you can understand why they’re so reluctant to see the Frenchman back at the Bridge after what they saw last season.
Other supporters, however, seem to be more open-minded about the idea of an improved Bakayoko returning to Chelsea next summer.
