It's been a mixed season so far for Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho's side have largely struggled in the Premier League, currently occupying eighth and behind the likes of Watford and Bournemouth.

Having won six of their opening 12 games, they are currently 12 points behind Manchester City and seemingly already out of the race for the title.

However, they've also had some promising results.

They look set to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League after making a late comeback against Juventus in Turin last month, while they put in a good performance against Chelsea in a 2-2 draw last month.

So, with the new season now three months in, who have been their best and worst players so far this term?

The Manchester Evening News have rated every one of Man Utd's first team players out of 10 for their performances in the opening months of the campaign.

While they've named two stand out performers, they've largely been extremely critical of the squad as a whole.

Many players are given ratings of 1/10, while they believe many others have not fared much better.

View the full ratings below:

Goalkeepers:

David de Gea - 6

Sergio Romero - 1

Lee Grant - 5

MEN don't think De Gea has been Manchester United's best player so far this season

Chris Smalling - 5

Victor Lindelof - 6

Eric Bailly - 2

Marcos Rojo - N/A (hasn't played)

Phil Jones - 1

MEN have rated Luke Shaw as Man United's second best player so far this season

Midfielders:

Scott McTominay - 1

Marouane Fellaini - 5

Juan Mata - 6

Jesse Lingard - 3

MEN have given Fred 3/10 for the season

Forwards:

Anthony Martial - 8

Romelu Lukaku - 3

Marcus Rashford - 4

Alexis Sanchez - 2

MEn think Martial has been Manchester United's best player so far this season

Ouch. It's fair to say they've been rather brutal here.

In truth, not many of United's players deserve much praise so far this season.

But they are right in saying Shaw and Martial have been the standout performers.

Shaw has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the Premier League this season, while Martial is on an extremely good run of form at the moment.

Incredibly, they've given a 1 rating to five players: Romero, Valencia, Darmian, Jones and McTominay.

All of which haven't played too much this season, but have been extremely poor whenever on the pitch.

Elsewhere, Sanchez is given a rating of 2, while new signing Fred has been handed a rating of 3.
